Blisters

Prevention is better than cure, if there is a toe you tend to get a blister on, and you have a lot of pointe work to do, tape and pad that toe at the beginning of the day as necessary. All girls en pointe should have in their dance bags:

  • animal wool for padding
  • tape for toes (micro-pore etc.)
  • plasters
  • toe caps (made of a breathable material, not plastic)
  • antiseptic
  • needle and cotton in a sewing kit with scissors.

If you develop a blister, make sure you clean it that night, and leave it uncovered so it can air out. The next day, if you have a rehearsal en pointe, pad the area around the blister to relieve pressure- not the blister itself, which you should tape, and keep clean.
